Dear Supporter of the Arts,
It's hard for us to believe, but a whole year has gone by since we began holding meetings at the library to explore a vision for an arts council in St. Ignace. At the very first meeting, we realized that local people were hungry for art activities and had a keen interest in art education. Since that time, we have jumped through a lot of necessary administrative hoops and we are now an official Michigan non-profit organization, have our 501c3 status, approved a set of by-laws, set up a bank account and elected a Board of Directors. We were awarded a start-up grant from the Michigan Council for the Arts that assisted with funds for promotional printing, office suppplies, insurance, and recruitment activities. These funds also paid for canopy tent, tables, and chairs, banners, and art supplies for children art workshops. These items will enable us to facilitate pop-up art exhibits within the city as well as participate in local art shows.
But
the exciting part of doing all the work setting up the infrastructure, was that we were able to participate in and create some art activities. Community engagement is a priority for SIACAC.
